Your Dream for the Islands: Results from our Online Survey

WOW! Our recent online survey asked you to dream about the future of our islands, and you certainly came through for us… 100 people completed the survey within 24 hours after it was posted on our web site, and on our April 10 deadline (one month later) we had received a total 373 responses.

Here is a summary of the responses, including the many (anonymous) comments that we received. This input was analyzed and submitted to our board of trustees in advance of a strategic planning meeting held in Friday Harbor in mid-April.

The feedback was diverse, but as we absorbed and discussed these responses one clear message kept rising to the top. It turns out that your expectations for San Juan Preservation Trust are really quiet simple: We should focus on protecting island land (conservation), taking care of land (stewardship), and gathering the resources necessary to do this work (staff, volunteers, partners, landowner education, community outreach, and – of course – fundraising). These conclusions, gained from your collective wisdom, may seem obvious in retrospect. But with limited resources available to the Preservation Trust and countless interests pulling from multiple directions, you have helped us to articulate a new guiding principle for establishing priorities and analyzing future opportunities.
